Stop Making Sense
We give the President a lot of grief here at POLJUNK. It's our job, and he makes it so easy. But we have to give credit where credit is due and though we may not agree with ALL of the President's proposals on immigration reform, it's worth noting his ability to rebuff the lunatic fringe of his party who are calling for mass deportation and immediate felonies for all undocumented workers.
In a speech in California today, Bush put the entire argument into perspective, ""I know this is an emotional debate," he told the Orange County Business Council. "But one thing we can't lose sight of is that we are talking about human beings, decent human beings."
That is key here. Despite the rhetoric from many who would like to lock up or kick out those who come to this country looking for the American dream, we ARE talking about people.
