Gonzales Declares No Habeas Corpus
When the Attorney General of the Unites States of America lacks a fundamental understanding of our Constitution and the rights acknowledged therein, you have a BIG problem.
In testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday, AG Alberto Gonzales declared that "there is no express grant of habeas corpus in the Constitution." I guess Alberto didn't get far in his reading of the document that is at the foundation of our Republic since it is in Article I, Section 9 [Clause 2] that states emphatically and without a doubt that "The privilege of the writ of habeas corpus shall not be suspended unless when in cases of rebellion or invasion of the public safety may require it." Now, he may argue that invasion of the public safety indeed occurred in the 9/11 attacks, but that's not the case he made.
Good heavens...

Oh, close enough. That damned habeas corpus has been nothing but trouble, anyway...
