McCain Hires Hitmen Who Once Targeted Him
Need further proof that John McCain has sold his soul? He's hired the very people he's assailed for "dirty politics" in years past.
According to the New York Times, the "Straight Talker" from Arizona has recently hired:
Mark McKinnon, Russell Schriefer and Stuart Stevens – Creators of ads in the 2000 presidential campaign that McCain said distorted his record and "stepped over the line." You might recall that the Republican primary against George W. Bush got particularly nasty with whisper campaigns involving McCain's adopted daughter and questions about whether his sanity was compromised during the five years he spent as a POW. They were shameful, indeed, but not shameful enough that McCain wouldn't give those same folks his money.
Stevens Reed Curcio & Potholm – The same crew responsible for the Swift Boats ads that McCain derided as "dishonest and dishonorable" has just joined the Straight Talk Express. You can expect scathing and distorted ads against any and all in McCain's way.
Terry Nelson – The man who signed off on the racially charged ads levied against Harold Ford Jr. this past fall is now McCain's national campaign manager.
As the politics of personal destruction goes, this is your dream team. They're just missing a captain and my money's on Karl Rove getting a call next fall.
