McCain: First Republican on global warming?

Yesterday, in a speech at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, John McCain became the first Republican presidential candidate to take a position acknowledging the existence of global warming and the need to do something about it. Which is a step in the right direction. But according to Think Progress, McCain has hired former Defense Secretary James Schlesinger (under Nixon and Ford) as an adviser on energy issues. In the past, he has been a pretty big skeptic of global warming claims, and has strong ties to the energy industry. That can't be good, but at least McCain hasn't asserted that global warming is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people.

It's nice to know that someone seeking the presidency will at least pay lip service to climate change issues.

Not like climate change has national security implications or anything...
