Monica Goodling Granted Immunity
By a 32-6 vote, the House Judiciary Committee has just approved immunity for Monica Goodling, former counsel to Alberto Gonzales. This means she cannot exercise her 5th Amendment right and can be compelled to testify before congress. Goodling has been described as the person "holding the keys to the kingdom" as far as the workings between Justice and the White House in this whole US Attorneys purge.
The overwhelming vote surpasses the 2/3 majority requirement to grant a witness immunity. The six holdouts were Republicans (surprise!): Reps. James Sensenbrenner (R-WI), Chris Cannon (R-UT), Randy Forbes (R-VA), Steve King (R-IA), Trent Franks (R-AZ), and Louie Gohmert (R-TX).
Countdown to Big Alberto's resignation just got a bit faster. The shit is about to knock over the fan.
