Gonzales: 'I Haven't Really Thought About' Habeas Corpus
That's right, the fucking Attorney General of the Unites States "hasn't really thought about" one of the basic tenets of our legal system and whether it should apply to prisoners held on terrorism charges (be they foreign born or US citizens).
Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA) then asked Gonzales, "Wouldn't it be your duty as Attorney General to make sure that their [U.S. citizens'] rights to habeas corpus were honored?" Gonzales finally agreed: "Yes."
Astonishing.
