Wyoming Senator dies
Senator Craig Thomas (R-WY) died on Monday. He was 74, and was diagnosed with Leukemia last year.
Governor Dave Freudenthal, a Democrat, will appoint an interim replacement, who will serve until a special election can be held in November 2008. Wyoming law, however, requires that special appointments be from the same party as the deceased. So Freudenthal will have to choose from 3 prospects put forward by the state Republicans.
Update: There's speculation that Lynne Cheney could be one of the 3 Republican picks. I had to choke back some of my own vomit when I read that. That's a sickening proposition. But it's only speculation, so we can hope that the wife of the Dark Lord does not make her way into the Senate.
