Bush Commutes Libby's Sentence

BREAKING STORY from the AP:
President Bush spared former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby from a 2 1/2-year prison term on Monday, issuing an order that commutes his sentence.

Additionally, ThinkPrgoress is reporting "Libby will never have to go to jail, but his felony conviction will stand, and he will still serve two years probation and $250,000 in fines."

And justice for all...

UPDATE:
The President's message, as reported by MSNBC:
"My decision to commute his prison sentence leaves in place a harsh punishment for Mr. Libby. The reputation he gained through his years of public service and professional work in the legal community is forever damaged," Bush said in a statement. "I respect the jury's verdict. But I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr. Libby is excessive."

Wow. And to think the GOP impeached Clinton for the very same offense....

But that was DIFFERENT, Clinton is the DEVIL.

This, of course, is from the same people who want to impose mandatory sentences on everbody else for even the most minor of infractions.

This is also from a guy who, as the Gov'nor or Texas, routinely signed off on executions without weighing pleas for clemency because he believed in the abilities of a peer jury to arrive at the correct verdict.
