Drum Up The Parades
It seems some conservatives are embracing a tactic for ending this war that POLJUNK proposed last October, which is to basically declare victory in Iraq and begin a withdrawal as soon as possible. It wouldn't simply be a semantic trick either, our troops have succeeded in their mission (as often as that benchmark has changed) by removing Saddam Hussein from power and disarming Iraq—nevermind that Iraq wasn't well armed in the first place.
The Scaife-owned, conservative paper, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review writes:
Our brave troops should take great pride that they rid Iraq of Saddam Hussein. And they should have no shame in leaving Iraq. For it will not be, in any way, an exercise in tail-tucking and running. America has done its job. It's time for the Iraqis to do theirs,"
But what will happen if we leave? Total chaos? Maybe, but we've already war gamed it out and it looks eerily similar to what Joe Biden has been proposing a for a few years now. Retired Marine Col. Gary Anderson, who conducted war games for the Pentagon said:
Majority Shiites would drive Sunnis out of ethnically mixed areas west to Anbar province. Southern Iraq would erupt in civil war between Shiite groups. And the Kurdish north would solidify its borders and invite a U.S. troop presence there. In short, Iraq would effectively become three separate nations.
An added bonus, according to Col. Anderson is that Iran would take sides in the civil war and get itself bogged down in the mess that is currently all ours. So we get to leave and throw mud in Iran's eye? Yes, please.

Now there's an idea: coax Iran into a Sunni/Shia civil war. Why should our soldiers be sacrificing themselves when we could have an Iraqi proxy army do it for us? What could go wrong?
