PG&E to buy 553 more megawatts of solar

PG&E is getting ready to buy 553 more megawatts of solar energy, from Solel, an Israeli company. Solel will build a solar power plant in the Mojave desert to provide the energy - enough to power about 400,000 homes in Southern California.

That makes this the largest purchase of solar energy, to date, in the United States. But PG&E isn't doing it out of the goodness of their collective heart. They're doing it because California law requires it. By 2020, utilities must provide 20% of their energy from renewable energy sources.
