Senator Stevens plays host to FBI, IRS

You just knew this was coming, didn't you? The FBI, with their IRS buddies in tow, raided the home of Senator Ted Stevens on Monday. Senator Stevens is nothing but a patriot. Why can't those jack booted thugs leave the poor man alone? Here's an interesting bit from the AP story:

Stevens has served since 1968 and is Alaska's most powerful elected official, responsible for bringing home billions in federal dollars in a state that lacks infrastructure, from road money to basic sewer and water systems in remote villages. Anchorage's international airport is named for Stevens and he has faced token opposition in recent elections.

The article also notes that he is the longest serving Republican in Senate history. So he's been around for a while. And it seems to me that in his time in the Senate, he has funneled a lot of tax dollars from other states into his state - so taxpayers in states like California, Illinois, and New York are subsidizing the lifestyles of taxpayers in Alaska.

He may not get convicted of anything, but this won't help him when he's up for re-election in 2008. Then again, he's never gotten less than 67% of the vote in a general election.
