Just when Republicans thought it was safe again to take a dump in a public restroom, Larry Craig says he's re-thinking his decision to resign from the US Senate amid accusations of lewd behavior at the Minneapolis Airport.
Craig's spokesman, Dan Whiting, said it was still the GOP senator's intention to resign effective September 30, "however, he is fighting these charges and should he be cleared before then, he may -- I emphasize may -- not resign."
You can bet that the GOP leadership is perusing the classifieds of Soldier of Fortune in search of a clean-up guy to take care of the mess that is sure to be an extended dance mix of the last two weeks. They thought they had this nipped in the bud, but like a bad port wine on a Sunday morning: he keeps coming up.
So far, Arlen Spector is the only notable name on the right side of the aisle to defend Craig, but it'll be interesting to see how many, if any, folks who were so quick to send him packing will now backtrack and declare this whole thing a liberal conspiracy.
