Domenici calling it quits
People have been predicting at least as far back as April that Senator Pete Domenici (R-NM) would retire in 2008. Word on the street now is that he is. He's supposed to announce officially tomorrow.
You know what might be cool? Bill Richardson running for the Senate.
Update: Domenici's office has released portions of the statement he plans to make later today about his intention to not run for re-election in 2008. The ostensible reason is that he suffers from a degenerative brain disease. Truly sad for him and his family. But we all know that a major factor in his retirement is also his role in the attorney purge scandal - specifically his call to former New Mexico U.S. Attorney David Iglesias pressuring him to prosecute a phony fraud case, and his subsequent calls to the President and Karl Rove demanding that they fire him.
And besides, don't all Republicans suffer from some sort of degenerative brain disease? What else would explain the delusional and hateful freak show their party has become?
