Ron Paul Cuts to the Quick
It's insane for any progressively-minded person to support Ron Paul's campaign since he hails from the libertarian wing of the GOP, but it's pretty clear why he's resonated with a growing segment of the politically aware on both sides of politics: his message is simple and concise.
His newest TV ad is a case in point. Here, Paul explains his position on the war and economics in 30 seconds or less. No swelling music, no shots of "good Americans" busting their humps, no flags. Just him and his words.

GO RON PAUL! GO RON PAUL! GOD BLESS RON PAUL!
RON PAUL FOR PRESIDENT 2008!
"To calm fears, Americans accepted the patriot act and the doctrine of pre-emptive war. We tolerated new laws that allow the government to snoop on us, listen to our phone calls, track our financial dealings, make us strip down at airports and even limited the rights of habeas corpus and trial by jury. Like some dysfunctional episode of the twilight zone, we allowed the summit of our imagination to be linked up with the pit of our fears." Ron Paul 7/30/07
"None are more enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free."

Nope. He's against abortion. That's a deal breaker for many of us.

While there are plenty of reasons why I wouldn't vote for Ron Paul, it is refreshing to see that somebody on the Republican side is honest enough to deliver the quote in Chris's comment. Of course, that sort of honesty will cost him dearly in the primaries since most Republicans just want to be told how great their "blessed" way of life is and be reminded that the world is full of Evil people who are out to get them.

The other candidates have simple messages too.
Rudy: Niiiine-eeee-levvvvv-ennnn!!!
Mitt: Yes, dear. Whatever you say.
Fred: Zzzzz.
John McCain: Kill them all! Lighten up, I didn't mean it! Kill them all!
Huck: Bush says it, I believe it, that's good enough for me!
I like Ron Paul's message best.

Dr. Paul's view on abortion actually is quite nice. He personally is against it, that goes with his being an OBGYN. Politically however all he really wants is to overturn Roe v. Wade and let each state decide it's own abortion policy, after all we don' let the federal government right murder laws either.

Hi Alan,
While Ron Paul may be against a woman's right to choose, it doesn't follow that all other OB/GYNs are against it. In fact, I would guess that surveys of OB/GYNs would suggest the opposite - more favor a woman's right to choose than are against it. Nobody loves abortion, but most American's support keeping it legal.
I think it's great that Paul is running for the Republican nomination - his candidacy is helping highlight how intellectually and morally bankrupt the rest of the Republican pack is. But he's still a Republican, so he'll never get my vote. I could not, in good conscience, support any candidate that affiliates him or herself with the Republican party and its political platform.
