McCain: Hamas Hearts Obama!
CNN reported today that John McCain's campaign issued a fundraising email to its supporters that says that Hamas supports Barack Obama's presidency. Per the CNN piece:
"Barack Obama's foreign policy plans have even won him praise from Hamas leaders," writes McCain deputy campaign manager Christian Ferry. "Ahmed Yousef, chief political adviser to the Hamas Prime Minister said, 'We like Mr. Obama and we hope he will win the election. He has a vision to change America... (snip) While Senator Obama would surrender in Iraq and hold talks with the Iranian regime, John McCain will never surrender in the struggle with Islamic extremists."
This is the kind of thing that is so stupid it just might entice legions of ignorant voters into voting for four more years of the Bush regime's failures. The email is obviously intended to reinforce the fallacy that Obama is either a Muslim or is otherwise un-American terrorist appeaser.
So the Prime Minister of Hamas has an opinion about the American presidential race. Doesn't just about every political leader around the world favor one candidate or another? For better or for worse, the American Presidency has a tremendous impact on the rest of the world, so why wouldn't Ahmed Yousef prefer one candidate over another? And why wouldn't Yousef prefer Obama when Obama has repeatedly said that he would at least pursue diplomatic resolutions to our differences with hostile parties and countries, while McCain simply calls for more war without end?
In theory, Adolf Hitler would have wanted to see Thomas E. Dewey defeat Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 1944 election. Should that alone have been a reason to vote for Roosevelt? If you were a Republican voting in 1944, would you have voted for Dewey or would you have considered voting for Dewey the equivalent of giving comfort to your enemy?
One thing the Republicans have always been great at is understanding just how ignorant the average American voter is. We'll probably see this kind of thing a lot more often between now and November.

We will definitely see a lot more of this between now and November. If Obama gets the nomination, expect to hear about every unsavory person that has ever been within 50 yards of him. Keeping him on the defensive, having to wearily distance himself not only from all the jackasses he has associated with, but from ones he hasn't, seems to be a damn good strategy.
You don't want to debate Obama, or to allow him too much time to stay on an issue.

"You don't want to debate Obama, or to allow him too much time to stay on an issue."
Totally. This is the only way to beat Obama, and they know it. They for Barack will be to quickly pivot (easier said than done, I know) on these things and point out how asinine charges like this are and then point out why they're doing it.
