Obama Pushes Back After Lame Debates
You wanted Obama to get tough? You got it, buddy.
"I will tell you it does not get more fun than these debates. They are inspiring debates. I think last night we set a new record because it took us 45 minutes before we even started talking about a single issue that matters to the American people. It took us 45 minutes — 45 minutes before we heard about health care, 45 minutes before we heard about Iraq, 45 minutes before we heard about jobs, 45 minutes before we heard about gas prices.
Now, I don't blame Washington for this because that's just how Washington is. They like stirring up controversies and getting us to play gotcha games and getting us to attack each other. And I've got to say Sen. Clinton looked in her element," - Barack Obama, in Raleigh, today.

The blogosphere today is full of scathing reviews of the debates and their deliberate lack of substance. Glad I only caught the last 15 minutes of the broadcast (5 of which were devoted to commercials).

Zing!!!
I'll be interested in the actual (GOP v. Dem) debates, but even those quickly devolve into platitudes and canned gotcha moments. It's reality TV now--"Who'll crack first?"
The most substantive debate I've seen in recent years was Lieberman vs. Cheney in 2000. Denounced, of course, as "boring," presumably because instead of the standard 'attack/make campaign promise' template of each turn, they actually established actual positions and...miracle of miracles...debated them collegially! It didn't set the world on fire but I learned more from that than any exchange between the presidential candidates.
