Obama: Nobody Can Question My Patriotism

Fresh from vacation and ready to rumble, Barack Obama takes on McCain's slimey accusation that the Democratic nominee would rather "lose a war than lose an election":

Let me be clear: I will let no one question my love of this country. I love America, so do you, and so does John McCain. When I look out at this audience, I see people of different political views. You are Democrats and Republicans and Independents. But you all served together, and fought together, and bled together under the same proud flag. You did not serve a Red America or a Blue America -- you served the United States of America.

Democrats have been pretty nervous about how far Obama's been willing to let McCain go on some of these attacks, but I think we're going to see more of these sharp rebukes as we roll into fall. This sort of response will also be the responsibility of his VP pick, so the case for Biden looks even better from here.

What a difference between Obama and Kerry. Kerry would have just mumbled something, if he had bothered to respond at all.

"You did not serve a Red America or a Blue America...You served a White America!"

Sorry, but that line was just asking for it...

Obama is strong. (I think Hillary Clinton is as well.) People who can't coast on white male privilege have to be tough to get ahead. This is a good thing for the Democrats.
