Like everyone else, we've been so obsessed with Sarah Palin that this slipped by. Rep. Charlie Rangel met Monday evening with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders to stave off demands that he step down as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, according to Politico.. The controversy stems from allegations of several financial misdeeds that have been reported over the last couple weeks.
After The New York Times revealed that Rangel had paid below-market rents on four New York apartments came word that Rangel had failed to report income or pay federal taxes on a beachfront property. On Monday, Roll Call reported that Rangel may have misstated the value of a condo he sold in Florida, a revelation that spurred Rangel to appoint a forensic accountant to review his financial records, which even he has described as a "mess."
So, it seems John McCain isn't the only who can't keep track of his housing.
Too bad because Charlie Rangel has a hell of a story and always struck me as a cool guy. We'll see how this plays out.
