McCain Backtracks on Bailout Negotiations

Further proving that his campaign suspension and call to postpone the debate was nothing more than a stunt, John McCain decided not to return to Washington D.C. to help negotiate an agreement on the financial bailout plan, despite promising to do just that. When asked why the senator had not returned to negotiations, McCain adviser Mark Salter replied that "he can effectively do what he needs to do by phone."

So, either McCain got a significant upgrade on his mobile phone plan and can now simply call holdouts in his own party or he was trying to dodge a face-to-face with Barack Obama this week.
