The Associated Press reported today that Caribou Barbie, speaking to supporters at a rally in Florida, voiced her displeasure with the campaign of the very uppity Barack Obama for acting as if Obama has already won the election. "You kinda get the feeling that the Obama campaign thinks this whole election process is just a formality," Caribou Barbie said. "They've overlooked, though, the minor detail of earning your confidence and your trust and winning your vote."
Overlooked? Really, Barbie? That's funny, because given Obama's use of a 50-state strategy, a comprehensive network of canvassers on the ground, and a relentless advertising campaign, it looks to me as if the Obama campaign has taken nothing for granted.
Caribou Barbie also told a crowd of supporters that, "Barack Obama and I both have spent quite some time on the basketball court, but where I come from, you have to win the game before you start cutting down the net."
And what campaign event featuring Caribou Barbie would be complete with Barbie taking a pot-shot at the Very Mean and Unfair Liberal Media? "And judging from the media coverage, it does seem the coronation is already set," Caribou Barbie said.
Now, why shouldn't Obama exude an air of confidence? As I noted recently, the McCain Campaign and even McCain himself are acting as if they have already lost.
And sorry, Barbie, but the media isn't liberal just because it sometimes reports news that you just don't want to hear. When the polls indicate that the American people favor Obama, the media isn't showing any favoritism by reporting what the polls say. The media is, however, reporting who the people favor. If Obama wins, it will be because the American people, not the media, chose him.
