Hometown Paper: Palin is "Orwellian"

Wow. The Anchorage Daily News calls Sarah Palin's response to the "Troopergate" report "Orwellian. Yes..."Orwellian.

Sarah Palin's reaction to the Legislature's Troopergate report is an embarrassment to Alaskans and the nation. ... Her response is either astoundingly ignorant or downright Orwellian.

Page 8, Finding Number One of the report says: "I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act."

In plain English, she did something "unlawful." She broke the state ethics law. [...]

Palin's response is the kind of political "big lie" that George Orwell warned against. War is peace. Black is white. Up is down.

Is this the legacy of the Bush administration? Facing the public with bald faced lies and betting that most won't know the difference and it'll be too late to do anything if they ever wise up? It takes an astonishing amount of gall to be faced with a report that gives an unqualified judgement against you and then spin it the other way. In fact, it's not even spin, it's just plain lying.
