Piling On Ted Stevens

Will Senate Republicans follow through with an expulsion vote on Ted Stevens this week or will they simply let him whimper away as the recount looks less and less likely to deliver Stevens a victory? Should he lose the official recount then an expulsion vote would be mostly symbolic but in a year when the Republicans got spanked in every single national branch, and much of it was due to the public's reaction to corruption and incompetence, wouldn't a symbolic gesture be entirely appropriate right now?

Politico reports:

Some GOP aides say Republican senators might not be in a mood to oust Stevens from their conference if it looks more and more likely that Stevens won't close the gap with Democrat Mark Begich, who now leads by more than 1,000 votes in the ongoing Alaska election recount. Vote counting will continue Tuesday in Alaska.
