Stevens: Baby Just a Little More Time!
Speaking of Ted Stevens...looks like the old boy is furiously trying to convince his Republican colleagues not to boot him. Politico reports that Stevens has been calling his homies and all but begging for "another chance," the idea being that he'll resign if and when he loses the appeal of his felony conviction.
Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) has publicly declared that he will offer a motion next Tuesday to kick Stevens out of the Republican Conference, thus stripping him off his committee assignments.
Stevens was convicted on Oct. 27 on seven counts of failing to report more than $250,000 in improper gifts. Despite the conviction, Stevens has maintained his innocence and refused to resign from the Senate.
Does this remind anyone of Larry Craig and his non-promise to consider possibly maybe but not definitely leaving resigning should his case of bathroom buggery not go away? Take a hint, fellas: these dudes NEVER go away.

Maybe Stevens won't have to resign. Last I saw, Begich had taken an ever-so-slim lead as the absentee ballots are being counted.
