(via FireDogLake) Counter-culture icon Jello Biafra shared his thoughts recently on the election of Barack Obama to the Presidency and Biafra let the President-elect (or, at least, some of his "people") know what he thought were the most pressing issues and what might be done about them.
Biafra addressed 18 points the he thinks Obama should implement, or at least consider:
IRAQ – TRY THIS! (Replace American troops in Iraq with troops from Muslim nations.)
TERROR – STRATEGY AND DIPLOMACY, NOT WAR
JUST SAY NO TO TORTURE
RESTORE THE RULE OF LAW
STAMP OUT ELECTION FRAUD – RESTORE THE RIGHT TO VOTE
CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM – THE EASY WAY (Shorten the campaigns.)
RETHINK AND SHUT DOWN THE WAR ON DRUGS
RESTORE BALANCE TO THE SUPREME COURT
MEDIA REFORM ("...focus on the rampant hate speech and outright lies that are falsely broadcast as impartial news.")
ECONOMIC STIMULUS – START WITH PEOPLE WHO NEED IT MOST
GREEN JOBS THROUGH GREEN AID (Implement environmental and money-saving policies now!)
AUTO AID – REQUIRE GREENER CARS
TRAINS MAKE SENSE – PEOPLE ARE READY
COMPETE GLOBALLY – TAKE BETTER CARE OF OUR PEOPLE
HUMANE TAX REFORM
HELP PEOPLE RESIST FORECLOSURES
"THIS MOVEMENT IS NOT JUST ABOUT ONE PERSON..."
HONOR AND RESPECT YOUR MOVEMENT
"I did not vote for (Obama) because of his record in Congress voting for the PATRIOT Act, the anti-immigrant wall, numerous corporate breaks and subsidies, the FISA bill legalizing all the NSA's illegal wiretapping, etc," Biafra said. "Nevertheless I, too, felt moved by his speech in the park that night in Chicago, seeing Jesse Jackson cry and wondering how Martin Luther King, Jr. would have felt. I can only imagine how much this would have meant to Wesley Willis."
Biafra also asks that, "If you have ideas or comments, don't just send them to me, send them to Change.gov! Even I have the audacity to hope that if one of these ideas penetrates up top, it is a chance worth taking. Tom Hayden is one of many who have pointed out that it is up to this movement to drive Obama, not the other way around."
You too can let Obama's team know what is on your mind by visiting Change.gov.
