Andrew Breitbart's War Against Comments

Andrew Breitbart made his name as an "editor" for the Drudge Report, arguably one of the most influential and widely read blogs out there. It's penchant for overblown headlines and rumor mongering is part of what makes it so fun to read. So you'd think this cat has a good sense of how the web echo machine works and better, what the psychology is that make those tactics work.

But I guess Breitbart is still sore form the beating conservatives took in the last election and has to look for some nefarious nemesis in the shadows of the Internet who can be blamed for such a drubbing and he spells it out in this Op-Ed for the Washington Times.

It's not that the GOP ran two dud candidates and failed to grasp the nature of conversational media and online organizing to propel them into a new era. No, it's those pesky commenters who "deface" conservative blogs!

The whole piece is full of paranoid gems that mirror Nixon's strategy for demonizing the left as drugged out weridos and degenerate freedom haters hell bent on destroying everything YOU hold dear. If they could turn the tide of liberalism that nearly drowned the Republican party in the wake of LBJ's historic bitchslap for Barry Goldwater, maybe it'll work again.

That is if the squeaky clean, God-loving conservatives would ever stoop to such tactics (nevermind Karl Rove or Lee Atwater), which they never would! Money quote:

The answer is obvious. The right, for the most part, embraces basic Judeo-Christian ideals and would not promote nor defend the propaganda techniques that were perfected in godless communist and socialist regimes. The current political and media environment crafted by supposedly idealistic Mr. Obama resembles Hugo Chavez's Venezuela more than John F. Kennedy's America.

What a stupid motherfucker.

Well put, Jude.

classic psychological projection, maybe?

if that's the case, we should be conscious and aware as to not fall into the trap of counter projection.
